Breast Lift in New Jersey by Dr. Jill Hazen
Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and the force of gravity take their toll on a woman's breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag. A Breastlift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If your breasts are small or have lost volume--for example, after pregnancy--breast implants inserted in conjunction with mastopexy can increase both their firmness and their size.

A breast lift can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence. Before you decide to have surgery, discuss your expectations and any concerns you may have with your surgeon.

The best candidates for a mastopexy are healthy, emotionally-stable women who are realistic about what the surgery can accomplish. The best results are usually achieved in women with small, sagging breasts. Many women seek mastopexy because pregnancy and nursing have left them with stretched skin and less volume in their breasts.

THE PROCEDURE
This procedure is carried out under general anesthesia. Dr. Hazen will mark the areas of skin that will be removed above and below the areola. The nipple will then be moved to a new, higher position while the excess skin above and below the nipple is removed and the breast reshaped. The procedure takes approximately two to four hours and is performed in an outpatient surgery facility.

POSTOPERATIVE
You may feel some discomfort during the first couple of days, but this will easily be controlled by the use of oral medication.
For the first few days following breast surgery, you will wear surgical dressings. A special post-surgical bra is worn for several weeks. You should avoid excessive lifting of your arms or pushing anything heavy for the first three to four weeks. With the support of your surgical bra, you should be able to increase your activity level at a steady pace. You should be able to return to your job in five to ten days.
